Welcome

Welcome to the SID Ghent-Lowlands Student Branch, the first official student branch of the Society for Information Display (SID) in Europe!

The SID has united display developers, manufacturers and researchers over the world since 1962. With our Ghent-Lowlands Student Branch, we want to offer engineering students a varied programme consisting of 'hands-on' workshops, seminars and company visits related to displays. Furthermore, our branch aspires to be the perfect link, both for companies as for students, for recruitment of motivated students for job or internship vacancies. We are currently counting 43 members who are associated both to Ghent University and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel.

Trivia Quiz

You are invited to our yearly Trivia Quiz during which you can display your knowledge of random facts on various subjects. The event is scheduled on March 7, at 6.30 pm in meeting room Gobelijn (Technicum, floor -1).

To take part in the quiz, the only thing you have to do is to make a team of 4 people, and send an e-mail to sidsb@elis.ugent.be with the names of the participants. Since the quiz is general, also non-SID members can participate. The subscription fee for members is €2, for non-members it is €4. However, the places are limited, so try to subscribe as soon as possible.

Besides the fun experience of the quiz, there are of course some nice prizes to win: the runner-up team receives movie tickets, and the members of the winning team each get an electronic item worth €30.

So: subscribe soon by sending an email to sidsb@elis.ugent.be. Hope to see you there!

Philips Parrot Idea Contest

The Lead Innovation Site for High-End Displays of Philips is located in Bruges, Belgium and our Student Branch has some close ties with their engineers. For example, last year they were kind enough to give a presentation on our Display Seminar about Ambilight TV, which is one of the differentiating features on their TV sets.

Recently, they forwarded us a new contest issued by Philips called the Philips Parrot Idea Contest, focused at the enhancement of the experience of a smart TV to make them more appealing for customers in the shops. This contest is aimed at Industrial Design and Information Technology students, so should you be interested, don't hesitate to read more about it in the attachement.

Launch event Oct 7 1 pm

The academic year has started again. As every year, we hold our launch event in the Maxwell meeting room (Technicum, floor -T). During this event, we present our plans for the coming academic year. You will have the opportunity to subscribe as a student member.
